The lecture of financial knowledge
2021-01-11

With the advent of the Internet, electronic payment has brought great convenience to people. However, it has also increased the risk of many financial crimes.

In order to further improve students' understanding of new financial knowledge, to meet student demand for financial services abroad, and to enhance their ability to prevent financial fraud a special lecture was held. On January 8th the Sino-Canada Program invited Mr.Cui, President of Loufeng Sub-branch of Bank of Jiangsu, to give a financial lecture to Grade 12 students.

At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. David Wang cited the data of the changes to the Dow Jones index with major historical events during the tenure of several presidents of the United States. These examples show the importance of financial knowledge. Understanding the macro-economy and the changing situation of the micro economy is relevant information for all students now and in the future.

Mr. David Wang vividly demonstrated to the students the influence of the view of finance and consumption. He then introduced the guest of this lecture - President Cui of Loufeng Sub-branch of Bank of Jiangsu. For the students, studying abroad opens the door to a new world. Opportunities and challenges will bring great impact to students’ study and life. The establishment of a strong consumption concept is a very important link to the future of all Sino-Canada graduates.

President Cui focused on relevant financial knowledge for Grade 12 students. Through financial explanation, presentation of recent case studies and analysis, detailed information of the process to apply for and use bank cards wisely, the students gained valuable life long tips to be safe with their finances. He advocated that students should set up an expense plan that includes moderate consumption, resisting blind consumption, oppose extravagance and to refuse to follow the trend of some students to over spend on living expenses. Focus to make ends meet, be rational with consumption and live with in your personal financial plan.

Telecommunication fraud is increasing, around the world. Many criminals take advantage of the time difference between home and abroad; the information gap between students and their parents, to fabricate false information by telephone, text messages and other ways to cheat students of their money.

Through case analysis President Cui explained the common ways of telecom fraud happens and how to deal with it and not be a victim of these criminals. He also popularized the common methods used by criminals to steal credit cards from students studying abroad and emphasized the importance of protecting personal information and property.

President Cui reminded students, "Always keep a clear head, do not browse bad information on the Internet, do not believe the 'zero interest', 'super convenient', 'non risk' and other beautiful lies you read. Do not be greedy for the so-called "convenience and quickness".

At the same time, he also encouraged the students present to be the leaders for other students when it comes to financial knowledge and be defenders of financial security.  Protecting others by setting a good example while  protecting yourself. If you encounter financial fraud, you should contact your parents and teachers at the first sign, especially when it comes to personal safety. You should also report to the local police immediately and seek the help of the Chinese Embassy if necessary.

At the end of the lecture, President Cui also made a general explanation on how to manage money safely and the financial services provided for students studying abroad. He talked about financial matters related to studying in Canada as an example to answer common questions such as, the use of bank cards.

Mr. David Wang introduced to the students what should be paid attention to when using bank cards in Canada. How to deal with the freezing of bank cards and account theft in the case of an emergency.

Based on his personal experience, he described the differences between using bank cards in Canada and in China. He encouraged students to learn more about financial knowledge, establish a correct view of financial management, understand the differences between financial services at home and abroad, resist the temptation of false information, avoid risks, and resolve any problems in timely fashion.

This financial lecture has enabled students to have a more in-depth background and understanding of financial knowledge. This will not only increase their financial knowledge of scientific financial management, but also improves the awareness and   prevention of various new financial crimes.

This lecture is also of great help to those who are interested in applying for Finance, Economics and Business.

It is hoped that students will draw helpful, practical knowledge from the lecture and be motivated to apply the knowledge they have gained when faced with opportunities and challenges in their study and future lives!
