SCHOOL PROFILE

Soochow University High School (referred to as SUHS) is a modern high school jointly organized by Suzhou Industrial Park Management Committee and Soochow University. It was approved as the first four-star high school in Suzhou Industrial Park in July 2005. Since its establishment in 1996, it has been supported by all walks of life and outstanding students have continued to gather here. Many top students compete in and win first prize in the National Olympic Competition. The scores of the College Entrance Examination are high, university admission rates have increased for many years to a new level, and a large number of students with excellent academic performance have entered the top-ranking universities in China. The school has won the Suzhou College Entrance Examination Contribution Award a number of times bringing great glory and recognition to education in Suzhou Industrial Park.

In 2008, China successfully hosted the Beijing Olympic Games for the first time as the host country. As China's influence in the world is increasing, Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools has ushered in a prosperous opportunity. Soochow University High school followed the trend of internationalization of education and established “Sino-Canada International High School Program”(referred to as the Sion-Canada Program) in May 2008. Sino-Canada Program instruction is in English and follows the Nova Scotia High School Curriculum. After graduating, students get Canadian high school diplomas and can go to well-known overseas universities to further their studies.

The establishment of Sino-Canada Program is an example of education exchange and cooperation between China and Canada, and is a result of the joint efforts of Soochow University High school and the Nova Scotia Department of Education. From 2008 to 2018, thanks to ten years of unremitting efforts, Soochow University High School Sino-Canada Program registration is steadily increasing. All these achievements are made possible through the support of leaders, the trust of parents, and the joint efforts of teachers and students.

ABOUT SUZHOU

Location
Suzhou is located in the south of Yangtze Delta, with fertile land and abundant products. The urban population is 1.07 million. Only a thirty-minute drive from Shanghai, Suzhou is classical and modern city you will not miss.

Gardens
Suzou is a famous historical and cultural city in China. The history of Suzhou dates back to more than 2500 years ago. From Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) to Six Dynasties (222 -589), Suzhou was one of the political, economical and cultural centers in southern Jiangsu area. The great Italian traveler Marco Polo commented "Suzhou is a very noble and grant city". In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the industry and handicraft developed rapidly and the initial stage of capitalist economy appeared, hen the region became the richest in China.
The old city of Suzhou is a famous tourist city and considered as a grand museum of numerous historical relics and densely spread gardens of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. In particular, Suzhou Gardens are approved as the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, hence enjoying the worldwide reputation.

New city
Suzhou is also a modern city. With the joint investment of Chinese and Singapore government, Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) to the east of old city has become another symbol of Suzhou. Suzhou Industrial Park seems like a place full of factories and industrial pollution according to the name. However, it is an area with modern apartments, schools, restaurants, shopping malls, theatres, and ecological parks.

Entertainment
Soochow University High School is located in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and all Canadian teachers live within this area. Therefore, it is quite easy for teachers to get connected with restaurants, theatres, international hotels and shopping malls.

Amusement Park
The west end of Suzhou is an amusement park, called Suzhou Amusement Park. In Suzhou, there is a saying: Let us go to Suzhou Amusement Park, since it is too far away to go to Disneyland.

Typical Apartment
All Canadian Teachers are provided with modern furnished apartment close to school, with free rent and internet.

Using Canadian High School Curriculum in China

Students will receive a Nova Scotia High School Student Identification Number and all courses will be based on Nova Scotia High School Textbooks. Students will obtain a Nova Scotia High School Diploma after graduation.
Wide choices of studying abroad

A Canadian High School Diploma is recognized worldwide; this provides many choices of study abroad for students not only study in Canada but also in the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Singapore and other countries.

Foreign teacher Status

All the courses are taught by Canadian teachers and are taught in English. All foreign teachers are recommended and dispatched by the Canadian Department of Education, 100%hold Canadian teacher qualification certificates, foreign expert certificates,100% have double degrees, and 70% have more than 10 years of teaching experience.
Diversified scoring system

The subject grades are based on both formative and summative assessments. Students are marked on a combination of test, quiz and exam grades (30%) in addition to presentations, projects, reports, research papers, group activities, assignments, debates, labs and teacher observations (70%). Student grades reflect student learning and performance based on a number of activities and assessments meant to avoid the evaluation method of “one test for life”.

To study abroad directly

To study abroad students whose English 12 final grade is over 70% can be admitted to overseas universities directly, without sitting for IELTS or TOEFL examinations or having university preparatory courses.
Exchange visits

Students will go to Canada to study in the second semester of the second year of high school（2.5+0.5mode）. This exchange program allows students to stay with a local host family, live and have classes with the local students in their community, and experience life abroad. In March every year, the teachers and students of the Canadian school boards will do a return visit to the Sino-Canada Program. Foreign university representatives visit our program regularly and bring the latest university information to us.
