McGill University, founded in 1821, is the oldest English-speaking university in Quebec, Canada.
It is located in Montreal, the second largest city in Canada and is one of the top public research universities in the world. It has enjoyed a very positive reputation in the world over the past century and is often referred to as "Harvard of the North" or "Harvard of Canada".
As Canada's most academically demanding university, McGill's admission requirements are higher than those of the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia. Its application qualifications, admission average score and course difficulty rank first in China. It has the highest proportion of PhD students in Canada, and has earned the largest number of Nobel Prize winners in Canada. The number of Rhode scholars is far more than that of other Canadian universities, ranking fourth in the world.
The current Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and Governor General, Julie Payette, are both graduates of this prestigious institution. In addition to the political circle, it has cultivated a large number of billionaires. It not only has the largest single alumni donation in Canadian history, but also the highest average contribution of alumni in the country. Since its establishment, McGill has trained 12 Nobel Prize winners, 145 Rhode scholars, 3 Canadian prime ministers, 8 foreign heads of state, 5 astronauts, 11 Grammy winners and 9 Oscar winners.
McGill is one of 26 universities from around the world in the Global University Presidents Forum, the only Canadian university to be invited, and one of only two non-US universities in the Association of American Universities.
McGill University and its alumni assisted in the establishment of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the University of British Columbia and many other universities.
The current principal of Stanford University, Marc Tessier-Lavigne, and the current principal of Cambridge University, Stephen Toope, are also McGill alumni.
McGill is ranked as the No.1 Canadian Medical Doctoral university by Maclean's magazine for 16 consecutive years, and also ranked No.31 in 2021QS world university rankings, and No.40 in 2021THE world university rankings.
